Kidde Fire Extinguisher for Commercial Use, 3-A:40-B:C, 9 Lbs., Refillable & Reusable, Hose & Wall Mount (Included)
$ 11.88
I have 5 10lb extinguishers, 2 4 lb extinguishers in my house, started with just a 10lb in the garage and the 4lb in basement. 2 years back on July 1st (it was a very dry year) the field behind our place goes up in flame due to a neighbor playing with fireworks. While waiting for the fire department to respond, a person 3 houses down says his garage and carport are on fire. I run and grab the 10lb and start jumping the fences in the backyards. About the time I get there another neighbor having the little 1lb kitchen unit shows up. He jumps around the corner and sprays, for what seemed like 4 seconds and says, I’m out. I jump back there and go to town with the larger unit. I stop the flames from growing due to the field still burning I know it is only time. We are back there about 2 more minutes when it ignites again, I spray a little more and put it out, then a minute longer it goes up again, my extinguisher is now out. I just turned to run to go back to get the 4lb unit when I am hit by a wall of water. The fire department came thru the field to get to the houses. If ever in doubt what size extinusher you need. Go bigger. After that is when I bout the 4 larger 10lb units. And had the original refilled.Fast forward to now. I wanted a extinguisher for my offroad rig. After measuring what I can fit where, I opted for this 4lb unit. I will get a 2.5lb unit to go under the front seat as well, but again, this is one of those circumstances where bigger really is better. I used some steel stock to mock up a bracket mount, used the USCG approved bottle mount found here on Amazon and grade 8 hardware everywhere. I am fairly certain there is no way this is coming off even in a accident (should be a major concern to us with pressurized steel bottles in our trucks), even if it did come off, it would have to work its way out from under the rack, then thru the 1″ cargo netting. I feel the passengers are safe. The handle is blocked by the rack support beams so nothing can accidentally fall on and break the top off. The valve assy is all metal so it is very stout as well, perfect for my use, and like everyone hopes, I hope I never need to use it.
